Wasp and yellow jacket nests in the South Bay
A wasp or yellow jacket nest in the South Bay is a job for a licensed provider, not a do-it-yourself spray. Keep your distance, leave the nest open, and call 911 for a severe allergic reaction. South Bay Pest Pros matches you with that provider and does not remove nests.
Two nests people commonly report
Homeowners in the Los Angeles South Bay commonly report two different stinging insects under one search. Paper wasps build an open, umbrella-shaped paper comb, often under an eave, a porch ceiling, or a patio cover, with the cells visible from below. Yellowjackets are smoother than honeybees, with brighter yellow-and-black markings, and they are commonly reported coming and going from a single hole: in the ground, in a wall void, in a shrub, or under a deck. A licensed provider decides which insect you have. South Bay Pest Pros does not make that call from a photo in a form.
The response is not the honeybee response. Honeybees are fuzzy and golden-brown to black, and a colony in a wall is often relocated rather than killed, comb included. That is the bee removal page. Yellowjackets and paper wasps are not boxed and moved the way a honeybee swarm is. If the insects are fuzzy and the traffic is at a wall gap with wax or a sweet odor, stop and read the bee page before you ask for a wasp visit. If the nest is an exposed paper comb, or the traffic is a hole in the lawn with smoother yellow-and-black insects, this page is the one that fits.
- βAn open paper comb hanging under an eave, with the cells visible, is commonly reported as paper wasps
- βA steady stream of smoother yellow-and-black insects at one hole in the ground, a wall, or a shrub is commonly reported as yellowjackets
- βA hanging cluster of fuzzy bees, or comb inside a wall, is a honeybee question on the bee page
- βA spider web in the same eave is not a wasp nest. Webs are the spider guide
Where South Bay houses give a nest a place to hang
Beach cottages and older hillside houses both have eaves, soffits, porch ceilings, and deck joists. An exposed paper nest uses the sheltered underside of those boards. You can often see it without opening a wall. A yellowjacket colony is easier to miss because the nest itself is hidden and the only sign is traffic at a crack, a vent, or a pencil-sized hole in the soil. People mowing a lawn, or pulling a hose across a bed, are commonly how a ground nest gets found. The hole is not a mole ridge and it is not a gopher mound. Moles and gophers do not fly. If insects are entering and leaving, say that. Do not describe it as turf damage.
Wall voids and attics are the overlap with other pests. A yellowjacket nest in a void can be heard as buzzing, and it can send insects into a room through a gap. Scratching that is only at night, with droppings, is the pattern people report for roof rats, not wasps. Buzzing in the daytime at one exterior hole is the wasp pattern. The rodent page is the scratching guide. Do not seal an attic vent because you hope the sound is mice. If the sound is a nest, sealing the only exit can push insects inward. A provider should hear the description and decide. We will not decide it for you.
The service area is Los Angeles County's South Bay: the beach cities, the inland cities, and the peninsula. A nest under a Hermosa eave and a ground nest on a Palos Verdes slope are the same kind of referral and not the same access. Mention a walk street, a gate, a second-story eave, or a slope when you write the request. The company has to reach the nest. We do not visit any of those addresses. City pages are listed at the bottom of this guide. There is no separate city URL for wasps.
What to do until a provider arrives
Keep your distance. Do not stand under the comb to take a close photo, and do not block the hole to see what comes out. People are commonly stung when they linger at the entrance or when they swing at insects that are already agitated. Move indoor activity away from the door or window nearest the traffic. If the nest is in a yard, tell children and anyone else in the household to stay off that side of the property. That is general safety, not a treatment plan.
Do not seal the opening. Do not spray the nest yourself. A store spray on an exposed comb, or into a ground hole, does not finish the colony that is out of sight, and it can make the insects exit toward the person holding the can. Closing a wall gap, a soffit hole, or a vent while insects are still inside can send them into living space. Leave the nest as you found it so the provider can see the traffic and choose a method. Knocking a paper comb down with a stick is the same mistake.
Call 911 for a severe allergic reaction. Trouble breathing, swelling of the face or throat, or dizziness after a sting is an emergency, not a pest-control appointment. South Bay Pest Pros does not give medical advice beyond that instruction, and we do not send someone to treat a person. For a nest that is simply in the way, the next step is a licensed provider, on their schedule, after you have kept clear.
What the licensed provider does
The provider identifies the insect and then treats or removes the nest. For an exposed paper comb, they can usually see the nest and work it from outside. For yellowjackets in the ground or in a void, they have to find the entrance the insects are actually using, which may not be the crack you noticed first. Ask them to say paper wasp or yellowjacket, and to say whether the nest is exposed or hidden, before they name a price. A honeybee colony is a different plan, often a beekeeper and a comb removal, which is why the bee page exists. If they arrive and find honeybees, the scope should change. You should hear that change.
Ask what people and pets should do during the visit, and whether you need to leave a room or a side of the yard. We will not tell you a product is appropriate around a dog, a child, or a food garden. The provider explains the method and any precaution. Ask whether they will remove the paper comb after treatment or leave it, and ask what happens if insects are still flying the next day. Those are their terms. Get them in writing with the price. You can decline.
If a pesticide will be used on the house, that work is structural pest control in California and the person doing it needs the license that covers it. Business and Professions Code section 8550 is the statute to ask about. Request the license, then match the business name using the steps in the licensing FAQ. South Bay Pest Pros does not remove nests, does not spray, does not open walls, and does not perform inspections. We match you with an independent licensed provider who does the work. How the match works is in how South Bay Pest Pros works.
The published range, and what it does not decide
This site already publishes a Los Angeles-area range of $150β$800 for wasp or bee nest removal. The same figure is on the bee page and on the pest control cost page, next to another publisher's matching band. It is a market range, not a quote from South Bay Pest Pros, and it is not a promise that your eave or your ground hole falls at either end. Nest location, how the insects are reached, and what the provider finds all change the number. The provider quotes after seeing the nest.
A paper comb over a first-floor door and a yellowjacket nest inside a second-story wall are not the same scope. Neither is a honeybee colony that needs the comb cut out. If the person you are matched with says the insects are honeybees, ask whether the plan is relocation or removal, and read the bee page so you know the questions. We do not choose the plan. We also do not charge you for the introduction. Homeowners are matched for free. Listed companies pay a monthly fee to be in the network. You pay the provider only if you hire them.

- βIs the nest exposed, in the ground, or inside a wall or soffit?
- βWill you use a pesticide? If so, can I see the California structural pest control license?
- βWho quotes after seeing the nest? The provider does. South Bay Pest Pros does not quote or remove it.
- βWhat should we do until you arrive? Keep your distance. Do not seal the hole. Do not spray. Call 911 for a severe allergic reaction.
What does it cost?
Typical LA-area range: $150β$800. Your matched provider inspects and quotes the job before any work begins. Price depends on property size, severity, and treatment method. Market range as of September 2026, based on published Los Angeles pricing guides.
South Bay pest control cost in 2026 puts these figures next to other published guides. The quote still comes from the licensed company you are matched with.

Wasp and yellow jacket nest removal FAQs
- How do I tell a yellowjacket nest from a honeybee hive?
- Yellowjackets are commonly reported as smoother yellow-and-black insects at one hole in the ground, a wall, or a shrub. Paper wasps hang an open paper comb where you can see the cells. Honeybees are fuzzier, and a colony in a wall is the bee removal page, often a relocation rather than a nest treatment. A licensed provider decides which insect it is. South Bay Pest Pros does not.
- What should I do while I wait for a provider?
- Keep your distance. Do not seal the opening and do not spray the nest yourself. Leave the traffic visible so the provider can find the entrance. Call 911 for a severe allergic reaction. We do not remove the nest while you wait, and we do not send a crew.
- Should I spray a wasp nest or plug the hole?
- No. Spraying or sealing a nest yourself can push the insects out toward you or into the house. The licensed provider treats or removes the nest after identifying it. South Bay Pest Pros does not spray and does not seal openings.
- When do I call 911 instead of requesting a match?
- Call 911 for a severe allergic reaction, including trouble breathing, swelling of the face or throat, or dizziness after a sting. A nest in an eave or a yard, without that emergency, is a provider visit. We do not give medical care.
- Does the $150β$800 range cover every nest?
- No. That figure is the Los Angeles-area range already published on this site for wasp or bee nest removal. It is not a quote. The licensed provider prices the nest after seeing where it is and which insect it is. A wall void and an exposed comb are different jobs.
- Do you remove wasp or yellow jacket nests yourselves?
- No. West LA SH LP operates South Bay Pest Pros as a matching service only. We do not remove nests, spray, or inspect. The licensed provider you are matched with does the work and sets the price.
